Vision

ITEI is an interdisciplinary institute, seated in La Paz , for the rehabilitation of those affected by torture and state violence. Other focal points are education and research.

Activities are undertaken from a socio-political viewpoint which aims at the creation of a society of social justice, in which human dignity is respected. Equally important is the creation of a society with a socio-historical awareness, which will benefit the eradication of said practices in Bolivia.

Mission

ITEI is an organization which supports those affected by torture and state violence, extending this support to the circles of family and community. Through education and research ITEI is creating a collective conscience about the consequences of torture and state violence.

Goals

  • To support the prevention of torture and state violence, offering integral assistance, psychotherapeutic, as well as medical, social, and juridical, to the affected and their families and communities.
  • To establish and facilite interdisciplinary teams that will work together with ITEI in different parts of the country, in order to help those affected by torture and state violence.
  • To analyze the quality and quantity of needs and wants in rehabilitation support of those affected, in order to develop a long term strategy.

  • Political refugees in Bolivia
  • People returning from exile
  • People directly related to those detained, disappeared, or killed.
  • Family and community circle of those detained, disappeared, or killed.

We are mainly working in La Paz, El Alto and Cochabamba.
